BITS Recruits Key Security Position
Paul Smocer to Lead Security Program – Additional Leadership Changes
Washington, D.C.—January 18, 2008—BITS, the operations and technology division of The Financial Services Roundtable,
announced today that Paul Smocer has been hired to lead its
Security program.
As Leigh Williams, BITS President, noted: “Paul literally has
decades of experience working for strong institutions and on behalf
of the industry. He’s the perfect person to help our members collaborate amongst
themselves and with others on critical security issues.”
Mr. Smocer will join BITS on February 15, 2008, as Vice President of Security. Smocer
has over thirty years’ experience in security and control functions, most recently focusing
on technology risk management at The Bank of New York Mellon Company and leading
information security at the former Mellon Financial Corporation. While at Bank of New
York Mellon and at Mellon, Smocer was actively engaged with BITS as a member of its
Vendor Management Working Group, as 2005 Chair of its Security Steering Committee,
and as 2004 Chair of its Operational Risk Committee.
Along with the new Security position, BITS has shifted key leadership responsibilities in
Regulation and Vendor Management. John Carlson, Senior Vice President of Regulatory
Affairs, who has managed the Security program since he joined BITS in 2002, will now
focus solely on regulatory issues. John Ingold has been named Director of Vendor
Management, addressing outsourcing, global sourcing and performance management.
Mr. Ingold previously served as Director of Communications and on BITS’ Security
team.
