Steve Bartlett is President and CEO of The Financial Services Roundtable (The Roundtable), and has served in that role since June 1999.  Previously, he was the Mayor of Dallas, Texas (1991-95), a Member of the United States Congress (1983-91), and on the Dallas City Council (1977-81).

Roundtable membership is a selection of 100 of the premier integrated financial services companies in the country including Wells Fargo, J. P. Morgan Chase, State Farm, Fidelity Investments, Prudential, and Raymond James. At the Roundtable, Mr. Bartlett has had a major impact on legislation including Gramm-Leach-Bliley, E-SIGN, the 2001-2003 Tax Cuts, the Fact Act (FCRA), Class Action Reform, consumer bankruptcy reform, regulatory reform and TARP.

While in Congress, Mr. Bartlett served on the House Banking Committee (now the House Financial Services Committee) and was a leader in financial modernization.  He served as a Deputy Whip and was a sponsor or principal cosponsor of 18 major pieces of legislation, including the Enhanced Secondary Mortgage Market Act, FHA deregulation, Fair Labor Standards Act Reforms, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

While Mayor, Mr. Bartlett led Dallas to reduce violent crime, adopt a $5 billion capital improvements plan, and achieve significant economic revitalization, a downtown renaissance, and 30,000 new residential units in or adjacent to downtown Dallas.

Combining dual careers in politics and business, he founded Meridian Products Corporation, a manufacturer of injection-molded plastics in 1976, divesting his interest in 1999.

Leadership

Currently, Mr. Bartlett sits on the Board of Directors of BIPAC and Easter Seals of Greater Washington, DC.

In the corporate world, he has previously served on the Board of Directors for the following companies, Centene Corporation (NYSE), IMCO Recycling, Inc. (NYSE), KB Home Corporation (NYSE), Sun Coast Industries (NYSE), and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board.

In the philanthropy world, he has previously served on the Board of Governors of the National YMCA, Dallas Can!, Grace Presbyterian Village, Co-chair of Character Counts of Dallas, and Chair of the Trinity Trails. In 2001 he served on the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education.

Recognition

During 2008 Bartlett served on the Leadership Group on US-Muslim Engagement, sponsored by Search for Common Ground which published the report, “Changing Course: A New Direction for U.S. Relations with the Muslim World.”

Mr. Bartlett's leadership has been recognized by the National Association of Manufacturers; National Federation of Independent Business; Ebony, Essence and Jet Magazines; Texas Association for Retarded Citizens; Anti-Defamation League; National Council of La Raza; American Electronics Association; Watchdogs of the Treasury; and Best Dad by NF Foundation.

Mr. Bartlett is frequently interviewed in the news media, including major outlets such as CNBC, Bloomberg, and national public radio and television. He is considered an expert on regulatory reform and the financial services industry.

Education & Personal

Mr. Bartlett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971, later serving as adjunct professor at the LBJ school of Public Affairs.

He is married to Gail Coke Bartlett and they are parents of three excellent children, and grandparents of four beautiful grandchildren.
