Whitney Bankers Roll Up Their Sleeves to Scrape & Paint!
On October 3rd and 4th, 2008, a team of Whitney National Bank employees exchanged their pinstripes for blue jeans to help rebuild a New Orleans home severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The volunteers painted and caulked an older home in the city’s Broadmoor neighborhood as part of the Preservation Resource Center’s Rebuilding Together program. The Whitney is a partner in the 2008 community build.
The volunteers, working with Rebuilding Together team members, got a chance to practice their home improvement skills and rub shoulders with colleagues from various departments. “Whitney bankers enjoy coming together to do stuff like this” says Sunada Henderson, Vice President in Whitney’s Community Affairs Department, reaching carefully to draw a brush full of primer across a freshly-scraped wall. “This is an event right up our alley, doing things to help make New Orleans even better than before.”
The celebrated “Whitney Bankers” are known for their involvement in the communities they serve – having helped to finance many local businesses as well as underwriting philanthropic efforts throughout the region.
Rebuilding Together New Orleans has restored the homes of 115 low-income homeowners since Katrina, thanks to the support of volunteers from dozens of business partners like Whitney National Bank.
The Whitney, with assets of more than $11 billion, is one of the oldest continuously operating banks in the nation. It has more than 150 branches throughout the Gulf South. Founded in 1883, the Whitney is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
