Toyota Financial Services Celebrates its 2009 “Making Life Easier” Scholarship Recipients

On August 5th, as a grand finale to the company’s “Making Life Easier” scholarship program, TFS hosted its third annual Community Day in honor of this year’s 41 scholarship recipients.

The scholarships enable underserved youth to pursue higher education with up to $15,000 for university, college, trade or vocational school. Since launching the program, TFS has provided 166 youth with scholarships, totaling $525,000.

TFS invited the award winners to spend a day at the Toyota Campus for a private lunch and tour at the Toyota Automobile Museum, followed by an awards presentation hosted by TFS President & CEO George Borst and Boys & Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles, Executive Director Anna Araujo. The recipients, their parents and hundreds of TFS associates were in attendance. Local officials attending included Mayor Pro Tem of Torrance, Gene Barnett and Ed Velasquez, Superintendent of the Montibello Unified School District. TFS associates received special acknowledgment from the City of Torrance for their on-going community support and the scholarship winners were given certificates of recognition from Congresswoman Jane Harman.

The event also kicked off TFS’ Back to School Drive.  More than 170 TFS associates purchased and filled backpacks with school supplies for over 550 kids from Boys & Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles, Community’s Child, 1736 Family Crisis Center, and All People’s shelter.

Headquartered in Torrance, Calif., TFS is the finance and insurance brand for Toyota, Scion and Lexus in the United States, offering retail auto financing and leasing. TFS employs approximately 3,300 associates in the U.S. For more information, please visit www.toyotafinancial.com.
