Giving back to the communities in which Toyota Financial Services (TFS) does business has always been a priority. This year, as a grand finale of the “Making Life Easier” scholarship program, TFS hosted its second annual Community Day. On August 13th, in honor of its 76 scholarship recipients, TFS invited the award winners to spend a day at the Toyota Campus.

Recipients toured Toyota’s environmentally-friendly LEED gold certified building, visited with its youth-oriented Scion division and had a private lunch at the Toyota Automobile Museum. The event concluded with an awards presentation hosted by TFS President & CEO George Borst and Boys & Girls Clubs of East L.A. Executive Director Anna Araujo. The recipients, their parents and hundreds of TFS associates were in attendance.  Joseph Martinez, a Field Representative, from the Office of Congresswoman Hilda Solis, awarded TFS with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.

As a special surprise, TFS donated 363 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles, Community’s Child, 1736 Family Crisis Center, and All People’s shelter. The backpacks were stuffed by 90 TFS volunteers.

The scholarship fund is part of TFS’ national giving program, “Making Life Easier for YOUth.” The scholarships enable underserved youth to pursue higher education with up to $10,000 for university, college, trade or vocational school. Seeing tremendous success from last year’s recipients, TFS increased the fund from $150,000 to $225,000.
