Bankers Habitat Build
SunTrust is a supporter of Habitat for Humanity across its footprint, providing financial support, leadership through board service and volunteerism by our teammates. With SunTrust’s mission to help businesses and institutions prosper in mind, Steven Vito, a Charlotte County, Florida Habitat Board member and president of Charlotte County SunTrust, proposed the 2009 “Bankers Build” for the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. According to Vito, “Habitat has done a lot of great things. This has been a banner year; we helped 36 families – including 63 children - into their homes. Our board wanted to ‘step it up,’ so we set a goal of 40 more homes. Then it simply became a task of getting other banks involved, which was pretty easy.” Their goal: Raise the walls of four Habitat for Humanity houses in one day. Eight local banks agreed to participate: Busey Bank, Charlotte State Bank, First Community Bank, Florida Community Bank, National Bank of Southwest Florida, Regions Bank, SunTrust Bank and Wachovia.
More than 90 bankers turned out for the special “Bankers Build” day, including 22 SunTrust teammates. SunTrust has a very strong volunteer culture, with more than 10,000 hours of volunteer service in the Southwest Florida region alone. Live Solid, Bank Solid is exemplified by the SunTrust Team throughout the communities we serve.
