Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge
Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge 20th Anniversary Celebration
Overview
Collegiate Challenge is Habitat for Humanity's year-round alternative break program that provides opportunities for students from youth groups, high schools and colleges to spend a week of their school break building a house in partnership with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States. For the past 20 years, more than 166,000 volunteers have participated in Collegiate Challenge, and this year more than 12,000 youth will participate during the spring break season. To recognize the College Challenge program’s 20th anniversary, an event has been planned for Thursday, March 19 in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity Greater Miami. HFHGM will host approximately 250 students from Habitat campus chapters and other school groups from the U.S. and Canada.
State Farm is the national corporate sponsor of Habitat’s youth programs. State Farm has provided more than $100,000 to support several Habitat affiliates and youth groups for their outstanding work with the Collegiate Challenge program.

· 2009 is the 20th anniversary for the Collegiate Challenge Break Build program, Habitat for Humanity's year-round alternative break program that provides opportunities for students from youth groups, high schools and colleges to spend a week of their school break building a house in partnership with a Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States. Volunteers are age 16 – 25.
· Typically volunteers arrive at the Habitat host affiliate on a Sunday and build on a house or multiple homes for a week.
· The most popular is the Spring Break builds, which take place from February through April each year. The most popular builds locations are in “traditional” spring break locations in the Southern U.S.
· More than 14,000 volunteers will travel to locations throughout the United States to build during their Spring Break.
· State Farm is the National Sponsor of Habitat Youth Programs and is sponsor of the 20th Anniversary celebration.
· Our national sponsorship of $1.1M each year includes sponsorship for the celebration.
· While this is the official 20th anniversary celebration event, Habitat for Humanity has created co-branded State Farm/Habitat banners for other Habitat affiliates across the U.S. to request and host their own 20th anniversary event.
· Greater Miami Habitat affiliate was chosen by Habitat as the host for the celebration because they have hosted more volunteers over the 20 year Collegiate Challenge history. They also have the largest concentration of volunteers during the 2009 build.
· 2009 is also the 20th Anniversary for the Greater Miami Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
· During the week of March 15 – 21, the Greater Miami Habitat affiliate will host volunteers from the following schools:
* Fargo, North Dakota: North Dakota State University HFH CC 50 volunteers
* Madison, Wisconsin: University of Wisconsin-Madison 25 volunteers
* Morgantown, West Virginia: West Virginia University HFH CC 20 volunteers
* Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada: Nova Scotia Community College 52 volunteers
