Community Service 2008 Company of the Week

On Saturday, October 25th, 75 Northern Trust partners volunteered for the Seventh Annual Financial Services Roundtable Community Service Day 2008 in combination with the United Way Day of Caring program. The enthusiastic volunteers painted thirteen two-bedroom apartments to help turn the transitional housing units into homes for the residents served by Kelley's Home.
Northern Trust has had a relationship with the Jane Addams Hull House Association since the 1940's. The Jane Addams Hull House Association helps Chicago-area families become stronger, healthier and more self-sufficient. In almost every Chicago neighborhood, Hull House programs and services address the daily problems faced by the community - domestic violence, the need for quality after school programs, issues of concern for seniors, and many others.
As part of the Jane Addams Hull House Association, Kelley’s Home provides a home to 20 young adults who are wards of DCFS. The facility is a transitional living program for 17 - 20 year old youth. In addition to the housing offered, residents receive 24-hour supervision along with a multitude of services. These services include resources such as counseling, life skills classes, health care, employment preparation, educational advocacy, and social and recreational pursuits.
Since its founding in 1889, Northern Trust has advanced a culture of caring and a commitment to invest in the communities it serves. Northern Trust supports programs that make an on-going difference in people's lives with a particular focus on improving the well-being of disadvantaged women and children, and people with disabilities. The active volunteer work of Northern Trust partners around the globe translated to more than 242,000 hours of free labor in 2007.
