KeyCorp’s 19th Annual Neighbors Make the Difference Day

KeyCorp Volunteers Partner with Habitat for Humanity

News about the economy is mixed at best – but that hasn’t kept KeyBank employees away from their longstanding tradition of service in their communities.

In celebration of May as KeyBank’s Salute to Community Service Month, volunteers from KeyBank, partnered with various non-profit organizations on Tuesday, May 5th for Key’s 19th Annual Neighbors Make the Difference Day.

They volunteer in myriad ways for good causes in cities and towns across the nation. They drive Key’s reputation as a bank committed to its communities.  And this year, a record number of employees participated in Neighbors Day.  Over 8,300 employees or nearly 50% of KeyBank’s workforce volunteered at over 780 projects nationwide.  Many of Key’s branches closed their doors at Noon as employees took part in projects ranging from mentoring students, teaching financial education courses, building fences, sorting food at local food banks, digging gardens, and generally cleaning up where needed.

Together, KeyBank employees clocked over 33,000 hours in one afternoon of volunteering.

“Some of our employees contribute the work of their minds, other the work of their hands – but all of them give from their hearts.  It’s our most visible symbol of Key’s remarkable culture of community service,” said Karen White, KeyBank’s Neighbors Make the Difference Day National Coordinator.  “The fact that a larger percentage of employees participated this year than volunteered in years past is solid evidence that the spirit of community service is thriving at Key.”

This year, Key has designated the entire month of May as “KeyBank’s Salute to Community Service.”  The month-long celebration kicked off on May 5th with Neighbors Day, and numerous activities have rounded out the month.

Although May is the community service celebration, Key employees volunteer year-round.  This year alone will see Super Refund Saturday in February where KeyBank employees assist with tax preparation for low-income individuals and families; food collection drives supporting local food pantries; support of United Way projects and activities, as well as annual holiday adopt-a-family activities.

Congratulations KeyCorp!
