Community Service 2008 Company of the Week
July 30th , 2008
Barclays Capital
On July 25, 2008, more than 200 Barclays Capital interns, in conjunction with Partnership for Parks participated in Community Build Day 2008. This year the firm’s volunteering efforts were again focused in Brooklyn, New York, where volunteers gave their time, skill, knowledge and muscle to help restore two urban parks; Sperandeo Brothers Playground and City Line Park.
The day began with an address by Albert Wiltshire, Chief of Staff at Congressman’s Edolphus Towns’ office after which the interns quickly got to work dedicating over three hours to each park.
At Sperandeo Brothers Playground, the interns demonstrated remarkable teamwork and were able to paint four children’s playgrounds, five tennis courts, a soccer court, a baseball and basketball court. More than ten Park benches were refreshed as well as a flag pole and the playground fence. Barclays Capital’s commitment to helping the communities in which we do business not only benefited the local community around the playground, but will also benefit Rafael Cordero High School whose students share the community space.
The second location, City Line Park, was the focus of an environmental cleanup and restoration effort. Our grant to the Partnership for Parks allowed for new bulbs and perennials to be planted in what was previously desolate ground. New saplings were also planted, grass areas were raked clean, trees were given new mulch and woodchips were spread over a half acre area to prevent new weeds.
Barclays wanted to extend their greatest thanks to their dedicated interns for such outstanding work.
Congratulations, Barclays Capital!
